ESRI 2022: Building Community

I’m sad to say that I won’t be attending the ESRI UC this year, but I’m excited to have been able to participate in the planning of several amazing events that will be happening in and around the conference.

On Sunday 7/10, get yourself over to Vin de Syrah for the EDGE Social. Sponsored by Urban GIS, Northpoint Geographic Solutions, and Locana; this is a great opportunity to meet your colleagues and support the community. Founded by Keith Searles, Ethnically Diverse Geospatial Engagement (EDGE) aims to provide a channel for both employers and talents in the geospatial industry to connect, ultimately providing equal opportunities for everyone, regardless of ethnicity or socioeconomic standing.

I’ve been extremely privileged to serve as the co-chair for the EDGE Leadership Committee, and I am so excited to hear about all the great community-building that happens at this event! If you are interested in making a donation to support this event and future EDGE endeavors, please visit the EDGE website for more information.

Women in GIS is a membership group, open to all people identifying as women and allies, interested in promoting, encouraging, and supporting women+ in the geospatial sciences.

EDGE Social event: Sunday 7/10/2022 at 6PM, Vin de Syraht

I’ve been involved with helping women in GIS to develop community and expand their professional horizons for many years. I co-founded the DC Women in GIS group in 2012, and am pleased that our group is an affiliate chapter of Women in GIS. I was recently installed as the Outreach Committee Chair for the larger organization, and I’m excited to say that our group is hosting/co-hosting several events that are open to all. Join us for coffee, conversation, and a conference-wide scavenger hunt!

There are lots of great diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) related special interest groups (SIGs) happening at the UC that you won’t want to miss , so be sure to check these out (and double-check the room numbers in case there were changes!):
